New in Outflow 5.0 · iPhone · beta

Apple FinanceKit, without the cloud.

Outflow finds the subscriptions you've forgotten in the transactions Apple already keeps on your iPhone. No bank login, no account — and the transactions never leave your device.

What FinanceKit is

FinanceKit is Apple's way for an app to read the financial data in Apple Wallet — your transactions and balances — only after you say yes, and only for the accounts you pick. Apple introduced it in iOS 17.4 in March 2024, and brought UK bank accounts to it through open banking in iOS 18.4.

“Users have control over information about specific accounts that they'll share with your app, as well as the time range of the information shared … retrieved directly from the on-device data store and never seen by Apple.”

There is no bank username, password or one-time code, and no data aggregator such as Plaid in between. That is the difference from "connect your bank" services.

From Apple's FinanceKit page, checked 14 September 2026. Apple decides where FinanceKit is offered. Anywhere else, Outflow's statement scan — or the free Subscription Finder — does the same job from a statement.

How Outflow uses it

  1. You switch it on. It's a beta and off by default: Settings › Beta › Find from transactions.
  2. Apple asks — not Outflow. Apple's own permission sheet lets you choose which accounts, and how far back.
  3. Outflow looks for what repeats, on your iPhone. The same merchant charging the same amount at a regular gap, or a payment your bank marks as a direct debit or standing order. One-off shopping, transfers between your own accounts and refunds are left out.
  4. You decide what to add. Nothing is added until you tick it, and you can correct how often each one bills before it goes on your list.

Coming in 5.1, now in testing: Outflow checks again when you open it, so a new subscription gets noticed without running the scan yourself — still only where you've already given access.

Where your transactions go: nowhere

Apple's FinanceKit keeps your transactions on your iPhone until you let an app read them. What happens next is up to the app — and that is the question worth asking of anything you connect.

Before you let any app read your Wallet transactions, checkOutflow
Does it need you to create an account? No account, ever
Does it have a server your data could be kept on?No server — nowhere to send it
What does its App Store privacy label say?Data Not Collected
Does it keep the transactions? No — only the subscriptions you choose to add, stored on your device (and in your own iCloud, if you turn on iCloud Backup)
Can you take access back?Yes — iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Wallet

Apps built around an online account usually keep what they read on their own servers, so you can see it on the web and other devices. That is a reasonable trade for some people. Outflow was built for the people who'd rather it never left their phone.

Common questions

What is Apple FinanceKit?

Apple's framework that lets an app read financial data held in Apple Wallet on an iPhone — transactions and balances — once you give permission. It arrived in iOS 17.4 (March 2024) for Apple Card, Apple Cash and Savings in the US, and reached UK bank accounts through open banking in iOS 18.4.

Is it safe to let an app use FinanceKit?

FinanceKit itself is built for privacy: you pick the accounts and the time range, no bank login is shared, and the data is read from your iPhone. What matters next is the app — check its privacy label and whether it needs an account. Outflow has neither an account nor a server.

Which apps use FinanceKit?

Apple launched it with budgeting apps YNAB, Monarch and Copilot in March 2024 (TechCrunch), and other finance apps have added it since. Outflow added it in 5.0, released on 14 September 2026 alongside iOS 27.

I said no by mistake. Can I change it?

Look in iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Wallet first. iOS asks each app only once, so if Outflow isn't listed there, deleting and reinstalling the app lets it ask again.

Why can't I see my bank?

Apple decides which banks and countries FinanceKit covers — in the US it is Apple's own cards and accounts only. If yours isn't included, scan a statement in the app instead, or try the free Subscription Finder.
